Arusha National Park
Arusha National Park, located on the scenic slopes of Mt. Meru, is a fantastic destination for wildlife enthusiasts and those looking to explore Tanzania’s natural beauty. Just an hour’s drive from Arusha, this park offers a diverse range of experiences, including wildlife spotting, breathtaking landscapes, and unique natural features such as the Ngurdoto Crater and the Momela Lakes.
Key Highlights
Ngurdoto Crater: This stunning crater spans 3 kilometers across and provides a panoramic view that is perfect for photography and nature observation. While descending into the crater is not permitted to protect the habitat, visitors often enjoy spotting animals from the rim, moving within the crater’s lush landscape.
Momela Lakes: These seven freshwater lakes in the northeastern part of the park are a haven for bird watchers. In October, the lakes are particularly vibrant, with migratory European birds escaping the winter. Though unpredictable, thousands of flamingos may also visit, creating a spectacular display of color and activity on the lakes.
Wildlife and Scenic Beauty: Arusha National Park is one of the few places in northern Tanzania where you can spot the black-and-white Colobus monkey. The park is also home to giraffes, zebras, baboons, warthogs, elephants, and waterbucks, along with occasional sightings of leopards, hyenas, and hippos.
